A blog about blogs

Written by: Sudha

Despite the proliferation of social media tools, the blog remains one of the most powerful ways to express your point of view, whether you are an individual, running a business targeting consumers or operating in the B2B space.

In fact, today, the  blog is gradually replacing the website as the landing page for visitors. This is especially true in the case of consultants and niche consulting companies.

The reasons for the continuing effectiveness of blogs are many, in my view- writing a blog does not take time, unlike writing a white paper, or a detailed pov article. It is possible to get immediate feedback, and engage with your visitors. You can start a conversation on a topic by posting a question, inviting responses from your visitors. The enterprising bloggers can add jazz through videos, podcasts, pictures and so on.

On another note, especially in an industry like IT, writing blogs can be a welcome relief. I have heard many people I know give this as a reason.

Last, by making blogging a habit, one can over time, build a repository of POVs which could lead to something more substantial like a book. Well known bloggers/ influencers such as Sramana Mitra and David Meerman Scott are good examples to emulate here.

I would welcome your thoughts on this subject!

True – a big advantage that I see is the speed with which ideas can be shared and discussions initiated. The blog has disintermediated the website maintenance person and hence allowed is to express our thoughts more quickly.
